PrEP, Calendar Art and Science Experiments
Kia ora koutou! Term 3 is well underway now and students have been hard at work. There are a number of different extracurricular projects which many of our Ruma Waru students are a part of, such as Dance Splash and Tournament of the Minds, and all of the students are taking part in our Primary Enterprise Programme.
PrEP
Kirsty, Josh and I are all very excited about how this program is developing- many students are showing great initiative and creativity. Currently, some students have elected to be business group leaders or CEOs, while the other students are applying for roles within the businesses that most appeal to them, such as accountants, designers and communication managers. Students will soon be setting up their business groups, applying for business loans and creating their products. You should all expect some letters home requesting resources and unwanted supplies that might be useful in creating their products!
Calendar art
The students in Ruma Waru have been hard at work creating their calendar art, and their efforts have yielded some beautiful creations! I have included some of the paintings below. These are just a few of the paintings- all of the students have their own calendar art which I strongly encourage you to buy. They have put in a great effort to complete these and the money made from these calendars will be used by the school's PTA. You should all have received order forms from your child which need to come back to me no later than Monday the 19th of August.
Science
This term we will be working on some scientific experiments with the Whaitere Pod students, which will inform some of our report comments at the end of the term. We ran our first experiments with students last week, which was very interesting as it provided these children with a chance to create a scientific method and to make suggestions for how to alter experiment variables for more precise results. The two experiments, which were testing stratification and chromatography using M and Ms and Skittles in warm water, produced some beautiful results!
