Kia ora koutou! Term 3 is well underway now and students have been hard at work. There are a number of different extracurricular projects which many of our Ruma Waru students are a part of, such as Dance Splash and Tournament of the Minds, and all of the students are taking part in our Primary Enterprise Programme. PrEP Kirsty, Josh and I are all very excited about how this program is developing- many students are showing great initiative and creativity. Currently, some students have elected to be business group leaders or CEOs, while the other students are applying for roles within the businesses that most appeal to them, such as accountants, designers and communication managers. Students will soon be setting up their business groups, applying for business loans and creating their products. You should all expect some letters home requesting resources and unwanted supplies that might be useful in creating their products! Calendar art The students in Ruma Waru have been hard at

Term 2 so far

Kia ora parents and whānau! I hope that you have been enjoying the last little bits of warm weather we have been experiencing lately, as Winter fast approaches. This post will just be a quick update on the main things that have been happening in Ruma Waru over the last few weeks... Cross Country Our school cross country event was a great day, with almost all of our students taking part and showing fantastic support for one another and persistence in their own running. Several of our Ruma Waru students will be representing us in the Northern Zones cross country event this Thursday, which is a great honour for them and for our school. They have been training hard for this and I'm sure they will put in their best efforts at this event. Swimming We only have two more weeks of swimming left, and students are making great progress in their swimming groups. Please encourage them to attend the last two sessions if possible, as they are showing good progress. They also are showing

Kia ora and welcome all of you to the R ūma Waru blogspace! As you all know, I have recently joined the staff as the wonderful Mr Kay has moved with his family to the United States. I am in my first year of teaching, which can be a nerve-wracking time. Fortunately, Crofton Downs School is filled with fantastic staff who are highly capable and supportive. The students I have spent time with so far have also made the transition very smooth for me, and they are very responsible and caring young people. Maths For the students who are in my maths group, we are currently focussing on a fractions unit, while my release teacher Kriss will be working on some strand maths with them (at the moment, she is teaching students about statistics). We have also been invited to take part in a online Mathletics Challenge which will run for the next month or so, and will be a great opportunity for students to put their maths knowledge and skills to use in a slightly more competitive setting than they

Phillippa Werry Author Visit

Philippa Werry Author Visit We have been celebrating book week at school and have been fortunate to have some amazing guest speakers visiting to share their knowledge about books.  One of our guests was the famous New Zealand writer Philippa Werry. She conducted an excellent Q&A session with our Senior Pod where she discussed what it was like to be a writer. She also shared some insights into the books that she has written. It was very exciting to meet an author who has written so many wonderful school journal stories over the years.
